Intent

At Great Dunmow Primary School, we aim to provide our children with a high-quality Computing curriculum, rich in the use of technology to enhance learning. Through our Computing curriculum, we strive to prepare our children for their future by giving them opportunities to gain knowledge and develop purposeful skills that will equip them in their lives. Our children will be taught Computing in a way that is memorable, ensures progression of skills and follows a sequence to build on previous learning. Our children will gain experience and skills of a wide range of technology in a way that will enable them to use technology across a range of subjects, to be creative and solve problems, ensuring they make progress.

Implementation

• Weekly Computing lessons, following the Kapow scheme of work which uses an innovative progression to allow to children to build on their prior learning year-on-year.
• Identifying opportunities to make cross-curricular links in lessons whenever possible.
• Medium/long term planning followed across year groups.
• Accessibility to iPads, Chromebooks and our ICT Suite.
• E-Safety modules covered throughout the year.
• Monitoring progress through work recorded in topic books and pupil conferencing.

Impact

The Computing curriculum at Great Dunmow Primary will contribute to children’s personal development in creativity, independence, judgement, and self-reflection. This would be seen in them being able to talk confidently about their work and sharing their work with others. Pupils enjoy their Computing lessons and leave Great Dunmow Primary equipped with the skills to be able to access technology at a higher level, as they move onto the next stage of their learning journey.
